RANTOUL — A tract bordering Rantoul's south Maplewood Drive, which once housed an elementary school, could once again become home to a public school. The Rantoul City Schools board has passed a resolution to sell up to $6 million in bonds to pay for building a pre-kindergarten school near the intersection of Maplewood and Eater drives on the village's southeast side. The old Maplewood Elementary, which stood there for years, was demolished due to low enrollment following the closure of Chanute Air Force Base in 1993.
